works for 43 years - without a day off

A British man who works as an inspector of a local council has been at work for 43 years but has never taken a day off!

Jim Owen, 66, has returned to work without fail since I started as an inspector in the Council of Basildon, Essex, in 1968. He attributes this to "good genes and strong work ethic," the Daily Mail

Jim has two children and three grandchildren, but still working full time at City Hall, and has no plans to retire.

"Of course there have been days when I woke up and felt rough and could have done with a day in bed, but I've always liked my work and I've never wanted my team down. This is the effort , "he said.

"I guess because my parents were from the war generation was only instilled in me from very young to get up and go to work every day, without any conditions or buts."

"It also helps to eat healthy, do not smoke and my job is to get me to go outdoors a lot, so it all adds up. Maybe I'm lucky to have good genes," he said.

Jim began his working life when he was a boy, delivering papers on Southend, Essex, where he grew up.

He began serving on the board in 1968 as a surveyor, making his way up the ladder to management positions in recent years. "I am retirement age, but I will stay here until I leave," he said.

Chris White, executive director of the council, said: "This is a testament to the dedication and loyalty of our staff Jim is a good example of a committed and conscientious employee and is an asset to the company .."
